Happy Canada Day Everyone!

Posted by Lorac Thursday 1 July 2010

Happy Canada Day

I will be going to town to enjoy all the festivities today. In the Glen Williams park, a little hamlet which is part of Georgetown they have day long festivities. Parades, fireworks, games and of course food!

A Favorite treat of many Canadians on Canada Day is a Beaver Tail!

No, not that kind of Beaver Tail , this kind! A pastry sprinkled with sugar.

Everyone is welcome to come down and join the festivities! Canada Day is a family affair.

So get off your duffs and go and enjoy the wonderful weather and Canada Day in your area! Like Christmas, it only comes once a year!

OVERVIEW OF CANADA DAY

Canada Day (French: Fête du Canada) is Canada's national holiday. It is celebrated on July 1.

HISTORY OF CANADA DAY
It celebrates the creation of the Dominion of Canada through the British North America Act 1867, which came into effect on July 1, 1867, uniting three British territories the Province of Canada (southern Ontario and southern Quebec), Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick into a federation. (See Canadian Confederation.)

The holiday itself was formally established in 1879 and was originally called Dominion Day, making reference to the Canadian-originated term 'dominion' to describe the political union, at a time when the Fathers of Confederation were hesitant to use a name such as the Kingdom of Canada. The name was changed to Canada Day on October 27, 1982.

  13. Love those beaver tails! We went for a waterfront walk and it was heartening to see a plethora of Canadian flags on cars, flying from houses, strapped onto strollers and even added to dog collars. As Canadians we are more reserved than our southern neighbours when it comes to flag waving, so it was nice to see people gettng into the spirit of Canada Day. Lovely post!

PS - the cottage is on McKellar Lake.
