Beauty and the Beastly Cold

Posted by Lorac Saturday, 12 December 2009

We are having a deep cold spell. This morning my kitchen window and back screen door were frosted in whorls of ice. So many different patterns to be seen. The back yard looks colder still as seen through a frosted window.

Looking at this
I thought it resembled the ferns that grow in the forest at the cottage.

And this, waves splashing on the rocks!

Even in a deep cold there is beauty to be found.

  3. Wow! Now that is cold!! Pretty patterns though.

We're looking at snowy scenes right now and it's a brisk -20 degrees - but only about 6 inches on the ground.

  5. Great patterns in your frosted windows. Good job photographing them, too.

  6. Jack Frost is quite the artist; glad you were able to capture his beautiful work!

Hope your cold wave snaps soon.

  10. Gorgeous! We had a balmy 3 degrees this afternoon but we do have a skim of snow. Have a great weekend.

  11. These are indeed pieces of art, captured by your photography, in my opinion, worth to be framed.

    Please have a wonderful Sunday.

  14. Frosted windows are a rare sight nowadays. In Holland we call those patterns on the windows "ïjsbloemen"which means "Iceflowers".When I first came to the Netherlands after the war, there was no central heating and all the bedrooms had frosted windows, which we thought beautiful, though it was very cold.
Thanks for showing these beautiful photos!

  18. I love frost flowers, but I only grow them in the car, now that we have the double paned windows in the house! These are really great examples, too!!
