I saw this tree the other day. I am always so surprised when I see a tree full of ants and termites in the centre and yet in full foliage and living as though nothing was going on. We should be so tough!

I'm always amazed at how trees can survive over the years. This one is a perfect example.
It had a great canopy of leaves and was definitely an older tree so I was pretty impressed too.
Isn't it amazing the damage termites can do?
I love the shape of that tree! Good eye to spot it!!
And I SO agree with you about the new mown hay! That is a great shot, with both the rows and the bales!!
Trees can sometimes be so remarkably resilient, and others drop like flies - no rhyme nor reason me thinks.
Oh, and welcome back to blogland - haven't seen you around for a while!
Hey, so glad to see you posting again. I look at that tree and wonder how many people may also look okay on the outside but have a festering wound in their hearts. Just came back from a counseling course so I guess my thoughts are slightly askew in that direction.
Hi there - that’s a nice picture. I think the thing that surprises me about trees is how little of the "wood" is actually alive. On a big tree like that there will only be a couple of inches of live "wood" behind the bark - the rest of the trunk is not alive! So the termites may cause it to fall over by eating the middle - but they can’t kill it!

PS: I've been away for a week, hence tardy reply!

It is so true! They complain about Pileated Woodpeckers, but they help get rid of bugs.
